A review of current education industry topics from the publisher of Learning A–Z

Teacher Appreciation Week

The most important appreciation week of the year is soon to take place—Teacher Appreciation Week, May 7–11. We all can remember teachers who had a positive influence on our lives. In primary school outside of Janesville, Wisconsin, it was Mrs. Weaver, my first-grade teacher. I had a crush on her and remember her right eye was a different color than her left eye. She was so patient and kind and certainly got me off on the right foot toward reading. I bet she really would be proud knowing that I helped start a publishing company that now delivers reading resources to well over 100,000 teachers around the world. Thanks for the good start, Mrs. Weaver, wherever you are.

Then there was Harry McCool, my seventh grade science teacher in Kokomo, Indiana. Maybe I just liked his cool name. Mr. McCool had a great sense of humor and instilled a sense of wonder and curiosity in me that led to my strong interest in all things related to science. His inspiration directed me to eventually teach middle school science in Rossford, Ohio. So let me take this time to thank teachers, one and all, who inspire, nurture, befriend, and teach. You are integral to what each of us becomes. There is no more important calling.

In recognition of this important week, we at LearningPage are opening up one of our websites each day of Teacher Appreciation Week, for any teacher to download and use whatever resources they wish. Tell your teacher friends to come and enjoy the free resources. The “Open House” schedule is as follows:

I've been using Reading A-Z for about a year now - LOVE IT. This week is showing me I may need to expand my subscription a bit. Have you thought about a package deal?
BTW, thanks for this week - it's nice to be appreciated.

April,

I am a student teacher and am just beginning to discover all of the great resources available. Thank-you for the opportunity to try out these resources for free this week. It's great to see that teachers are appreciated by companies such as this. It makes me even more excited about my future profession!

Thank you very much for the appreciation week. I would recommend you as many times as I have the opportunity although in my country not every school has a Internet connection, only a small percentage.

This has been a great gift for all teachers. I have a subscription to Reading A-Z, but now I know what else is out there. What valuable resources! I am gioing to get a subscription to Raz-Kids as that will work so well with the SMART Board in my classroom. Interactive books! Just what we needed. Thanks again for appreciating teachers and all the hard work we do.

Thank you so much for Reading A-Z. I have been using this program for over a year now and my students LOVE to get a A-Z Book. They know that these are books they are able to read. They love to take them home and read them to their families.
Thanks for Everything!

Bob----Harry McCool was my father. He died in November of 2005 of lung cancer. I remember as a little girl going to Pettit Park and sitting on his desk and talking to his kids. You might have been one of them? I am the principal of Elwood Haynes and we love all of the programs in A to Z. I will be the Assist. Supt. of Kokomo Center School beginning July 1st. You will never know how much your remarks meant to me. One of my teachers saw it on the newsletter and told me. My father was just everything to me and looks over my should each day. His inspiration and love of kids and teaching were inspiring to you and look how you have taken that and inspired so many others. Wow----Thanks again Bob for passing on that love of learning!!! Debbie
